Join us with the Resource Center For Nonviolence - Beloved Community Cafe on Friday, October 9 at 12:00 noon.
About the event and the instructor
Lisa DuPont, M.S. (Gyalten Chi-me) is a Buddhist monastic, a school psychologist, and a social activist who has also helped children heal from discrimination and hate acts. She has a passion for bringing secular ethics into everyday life & social change work. Lisa is a nationally trained facilitator in Emory University’s highly researched, evidence-based program, Cognitively-Based Compassion Training-CBCT®.
CBCT® is a system of contemplative exercises and meditations designed to strengthen and sustain compassion. Practices include training in attentional stability, increased emotional awareness, and targeted analytical reflections to enhance one’s relationship with self and others. The reflective exercises seek critical insights into the way one’s mindsets and attitudes can be shifted to support personal resiliency, to foster a deeper understanding of and a more inclusive empathy for others, and ultimately to intensify altruistic motivation. With practice, informed compassion can become a spontaneous response that permeates one’s life.
During this week's Beloved Cafe, Lisa will share an overview on Cognitively-Based Compassion Training-CBCT®, and lead participants in an introductory practice plus a discussion on compassion as a foundational tool for any social change work.
What is the Beloved Community Cafe?
RCNV staff and board members facilitate a weekly Zoom open invitation with community partners to explore: What is Beloved Community? In what ways do we live it now? What changes can we make together to create Beloved Community?
